Cures hangovers and binge smoking.

My Alibi: Info

This song is about how I think too much and do too little... perhaps my tribal name would be "Thinks too Much." The lyrics shift from narrative to confession and then "Alibi" speaks in an insidious whisper.

The initial idea came in the fall of 2000, but I constantly revised the lyrics and music until November 13th of 2001 (that was the day I recorded it and threw in the towel). Its construction is one of the more complicated ones I have attempted; it shifts meter repeatedly and incorporates a key change and non-standard vocal harmony that I managed to double, but didn't attempt to write down.

My Alibi : Lyrics

I came into this creamy womb with smoky smiles.
With fearful eyes I locked the door behind me tight.
I profess no innocence, but I couldn't bear to leave
this fairy-tale of easy lies for suffering.

And once again I've wasted time
on my fading flings that hide the urgency of now.
My epitaph lacks accomplishments
in this fractal life of latent mediocrity.
So will wait and lean on you
and I'll tell you all the things I've almost done.
Time is short and slips away
but there's nothing I can do or say.

Alibi (whispered):
"To hesitate is not a sin,
and there's no need to finish what you begin.
Your ramblings are meaningful
and you're getting wiser all along!"

Alibi, he knows me well
and the truth inside we never have to tell.
With words like thunder, but deeds like rain,
we promised change but we stayed the same.

So I will wait and lean on you
and I'll tell you all the things I've almost done.
Time is short and slips away,
but there's nothing I can do or say.
