Pacifica : Info

This song was written in June, 1998 in Vienna, Austria. When I wrote it, I was vividly missing the palm trees and the idle days I spent in California. If you've ever been to the Taco Bell restaurant in Pacifica, just South of San Francisco, you know what a strange and surreal place that is--Robert Stow, I know you know what I'm talking about. Drug dealers, gay surfers, cannabalistic birds, a straight shot to Japan, and a simple desire to stand on a beach... all of it made complete sense at that moment.

The meter is irradic, shifting from 11/8 to 5/8 and occaisonal measures of 6/8, and I dig the guitar solo in triplets over the 5/8... it was supposed to be trumpets, but a Mariachi band was scarce in Asia.

Pacifica : Lyrics

I went to the West, across the desert plaid
with the radio playing and some money in my hand
some gas in the tank and lots of nada planned.
I just wanna see some palm trees growin where the ocean meets the sand.

Pacifica...

It's a quarter for pesos where the birds eat themselves
There's conquistadors walkin their little white lines
where kisses are rainbow and love's a disease
El Nino's cruisin town to warn us of the big one comin round

CHORUS:
And all I wanted was something for free
sand on my toes, and sky over me
If I'm dying, I won't go alone.
Pacifica...

My heart's still beating
My blood's running thin
I'm bleeding a picture
'cuz I wanted a picture of days in the sun
when the window was open and my work was done

Sanity's calling, calling my name.
Priorities change, but life stays the same.
Sanity's calling, calling my name...
Pacifica...

CHORUS
