Rose
Rose : Info
This is another song influenced by California. Barbara
Rose was the name of my grandmother, who grew up on an orange grove in Carlsbad,
California. She passed away while I was living in Germany in 1998, and I
wrote this sparse song while thinking of her and the place where she had
spent her childhood.
This was the very first recording that I did in China after I had turned
on my mics and started scaring the neighbors at the hotel with my singing.
I hadn't originally meant to keep this take.
Rose : Lyrics
Skin and sun and Palm trees on my mind;
California, sun-kissed land of mine -
where days are long but time keeps slipping by,
and nights are warm with stars a-flying round.
The orange grove that was here has long been gone.
Like dust to dust she whithered slowly away.
Fruit will come in Blood and Mandarin
and what grew here will one day bloom again.
