Stumble : Info
The original version of this song was written during the winter of 1996-1997, but the some of the lyrics were rewritten for this recording. I recorded another version of the song in the beginning of 1998.
This is another song inspired by Kyle Herrmann, and it is dedicated to him. The idea is thus: What if you had a crush for a girl, and you snuck into her room to leave flowers for her, but in the process, you slipped and knocked yourself out. What would the girl think when she opened the door? Would she be moved by tenderness or think you were a total idiot?
The picture captures Kyle in his glory. We were in the Black Forest of Germany when we came upon the biggest field of dandelions any of us had ever seen. Coreena Faust (Franklin), Astrid Melchner, Tanya Emelyanova (Johnson) and Drew Benson joined in making "flower angels" -- something like snow angels. I guess you had to be there.
Stumble : Lyrics
If she's worth waiting for
then she'll always be true,
someone who'll catch you every time you fall,
someone who'll love you and give you their all.
Could you ever love a total stranger
then stand in front of us and name her?
What would she say
if you took her breath away?
Just who do you think you are? Some kind of superstar?
'cuz you've never tried to impress, mystify or second guess.
But you say you can 'cuz you think you can -
my friend, that puts you up on me,
'cuz I ain't no Superman.
(Take her breath away, what would she say, what would she say?)
"I've fallen for you, and I can't get up.
Secret admiration just wasn't enough.
Before logic could pull me away,
me and my flowers came trippin' your way."
(With flowers in hand, you took a fall, you took a fall)
What if Romeo and Juliet had never ever met?
What if he never took that chance, and never asked her to dance?
And what if she smiled and you talked for a while and she said
that she felt the same way as you? As you do...
It couldn't be much more from the heart;
he didn't know just where to start,
'cuz what you see ain't what you get -
and what's inside she hasn't seen yet.
Everybody wants a chance,
and everybody wants a little romance.
Don't stumble don't mumble just try and stay humble
and keep your chin up when you're talking to her
watch your step watch your back watch your pride
fall on the floor when you're thinking of her
Carnations Pink Roses your love decomposes
keep quiet don't riot kiss and don't tell
Daffodils Daisies they're calling you crazy
but what if she what if she what if she cares?
Self-Conscious unconscious you lie on the floor
thinking of who the flowers are for
Stumble my friend and bounce back again,
hearts may break but dreams never end.
